Art

During the course of the Art Appreciation class, students will be expected to increase their knowledge of and appreciation for different works of art. Students will learn how to determine the mood and theme of a piece as well as interpret its different elements. They will be exposed to a wide variety of styles of music, painting and poetry and will be able to express their reactions to and interpretations of such works in both written and oral form.

Objectives:

  • Students will understand how art reflects, records and shapes history and plays a role in every culture.
  • Students will develop a basic vocabulary for thinking and writing about and discussing visual art elements and principles of design .
  • Students will be able to make and justify judgments about aesthetic qualities in works of art.
  • Students will develop open-ended problem solving skills.
  • Students will develop their expository writing abilities.
  • Students will develop confidence in their abilities to express ideas imaginatively in the visual arts.
  • Students will view, discuss and write about works of art from a variety of historical eras and world cultures.
