Gay-Straight Alliance
Peninsula High School's Gay-Straight Alliance meets weekly and aims to create a safe, welcoming environment for students to support each other and learn about homophobia and other oppressions. The GSA also partners with the administration, faculty and staff to educate the school community about homophobia, gender identity and sexual orientation issues.
Peninsula High School's GSA sponsors the annual Day of Silence on campus to call attention to those who have been silenced by hatred, oppression, and prejudice. In addition, they have brought a photo-narrative art exhibit to campus which aimed to "incite dialogue, and to inspire transformation." The GSA also has held a panel discussion with school staff to address ways to improve the environment on campus for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, and questioning students.
