ALGEBRA 1-2

This course develops algebraic principles and problem-solving skills through context based problems. Topics include: scientific notation, graphing of linear and non-linear equations, solving one and two variable equations, quadratic equations, factoring, proportional reasoning, pattern recognition, slope, Pythagorean Theorem and area problems. Students will become familiar with the use of scientific calculators. The emphasis in this course is not only to develop the basic skills related to these topics, but also to teach the student how to utilize these skills in combination to solve larger application problems. Success in the course requires consistency in doing daily classwork assignments. Scientific calculators are required.

GEOMETRY 1-2

Geometry is the study of points, lines, planes and figures. These geometric principles are developed through discover lessons and context-based problem-solving and the continuing development of concepts taught in Algebra 1-2. Proofs, spatial visualization, logical argumentation, similarity, trigonometry and probability are all introduced. Scientific calculators are used throughout the course.
Prerequisite: A grade of C or better in Algebra 1-2
Prerequisite Skills:

  • solving equations
  • graphing linear and non-linear equations.
  • factoring quadratic equations.
  • ability to multiply and manipulate variable expressions

ALGEBRA 3-4

This course is designed to prepare students for the upper level mathematics courses of Trigonometry and Calculus. Topics include: solving of equations and inequalities, factoring, analytic geometry, pattern recognition, graphics of higher order equations, logarithmic and exponential functions, vectors, matrices, conic sections and three-dimensional space. This course extensively utilizes the graphics calculator tur further supplement the understanding of these advanced topics and their applications.
Prerequisisite:
A grade of C or better in Algebra 3-4
Prerequisite Skills:

  • manipulation of square root/radical expressions
  • graphing skills

INTEGRATED MATH 1-2

This class is designed to provide a balance of problem solving, skill development, and conceptual understanding. The course is based on strengthening algebraic skills while introducing geometric skills.
