R.O.P. (REGIONAL OCCUPATIONAL PROGRAM)
The San Mateo County Regional Occupational Program provides job skills courses, technical training and internships for high school students as well as adults. Most Peninsula High School students sign an intake contract requiring them to take R.O.P. courses throughout their time at PHS to satisfy needed graduation requirements Electives (50 credits needed). The San Mateo County area R.O.P. offers courses in; Health Care, Business, Information Technology, Service Industry, Trade and Technology. Courses are offered in Fall, Spring, Summer, and there are open-entry courses and a new “Career Express Course” track. There is no cost for PHS students to enroll in the Regional Occupational Program.

WORK EXPERIENCE
Students who work at paid jobs may enroll in Work Experience Education and earn one elective credit for every 36 hours of work. It is possible to earn up to 10 credits in one semester or 20 in one year. The Work Experience teacher designs curriculum which students must complete on a weekly basis in order to earn credits in the class. The curriculum includes such areas as:
- Labor Laws
- Employer/Employee Relations
- Economic Literacy
- Job Search
- Career Development
CHILD GROWTH
Child Growth is a class offered in connection with the School Aged Mothers' Program (SAMP). Teen mothers and expectant mothers learn about things such as fetal development, caring for thier baby, developmental milestones, nurturing mental and emotional growth, and strategies for raising healthy, happy children. They are introduced to resources from the community and meet guest speakers periodically.
