PHS Updates

Dear Puma Families,

We invite you to join us for an important Parent Workshop and Discussion focused on supporting our teens through the growing challenges related to substance use and misuse. This psycho-educational session is designed to create open, informed dialogue within our school community—equipping parents and caregivers with insight, awareness, and practical tools to guide their students toward healthy choices.

We’re fortunate to partner with Eli from El Centro Libertad, a respected community-based organization that promotes social-emotional learning, mental health awareness, and substance use prevention. Eli will lead an honest and compassionate discussion about the current trends we’re seeing among youth, the warning signs families can look for, and strategies to strengthen communication and trust at home.

This session isn’t about blame or fear—it’s about education, connection, and prevention. We know how deeply our families care about the well-being of our students, and we want to ensure everyone has access to accurate information and supportive resources.

Event Details:

  • November 19, 2025
  • 9:30 -11 a.m.
  • Peninsula High School Multi-Purpose Room
  • Spanish Language support and translation will be provided.
  • Refreshments and light snacks will be provided

We encourage every family to attend this meaningful and timely conversation. Together, we can continue to build a safe, informed, and supportive school community for all of our students.

With appreciation,
JeNora Lewis
Principal

Learn about the SFO Career Academy

Learn about the SFO Career Academy, a partnership between San Francisco International Airport and Peninsula High School.

The Academy consists of a four-week long workshop in the spring, led by SFO's employment and training specialist, where students learn about the ins and outs of the airport. Participants have the opportunity to apply for a summer internship at SFO at the end of the academy.

Mental Health and Wellness Resources

The Peninsula High School Wellness Program provides prevention and short-term intervention for all students facing social and emotional challenges that impact academic performance, attendance, and behavior at school. In a safe and supportive environment students can meet with a wellness counselor to discuss a variety of complex issues such as stress, trauma, suicide, depression, bullying, grief, self-esteem, family life, drug and alcohol use, relationships and gender identity and LGBTQ+.

Students can learn positive, lifelong habits that contribute to their well-being and success. The Wellness Program provides short-term (up to 12 sessions) individual, group and/or drop-in support in a confidential, non-judgmental space staffed with therapists who are dedicated to improving the health, well-being and educational outcomes of all students.

Students: Any student can come in for support during drop in hours. Please let your teacher know you want to come see Miss Lara L. Montoya, MS, LMFT at the Wellness Center and have them write you a pass.

Parents: Talk with your student's school counselor as the first step to accessing wellness services or come in during drop-in hours.
